The Stripper Midge is one of the best and most longstanding midge patterns on the South Holston River, and has proven that it can catch both numbers and quality fish over the years. The fly is particularly good on low water but is a great pattern anytime and anywhere. The fly gets its name from the fact that it is tied with stripped peacock herl, which provides excellent segmentation and a slim profile. Tie these with a variety of bead colors (silver, copper, black nickel, …) and also try different quills. Olive and black nickel is definitely worth tying up.
